The volume deals with the recovery and enhancement of minor centers, especially under today’s pandemic crisis, when a spontaneous movement from larger cities towards neighboring occurs. These small towns are a great resource of the Mediterranean Cultural Heritage, tangible and intangible, that must be safeguarded and re-evaluated. This volume collects the essays of the members of the Mediterranean CIVVIH Sub-committee presented within the 2021 Webinar, as a comparison between different minor contexts throughout the EU countries around the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Basin. Promoting participation in new urban models seems to be a good opportunity for the revival of the abandoned villages.
Teresa Colletta
is a Full Professor at the University of Naples “Federico II”; she is a Honorary expert member ICOMOS CIVVIH International, President of CIVVIH Sub-Committee Mediterranean cities and Member of CD ICOMOS Italy. She is a member of ICOMOS since 1978 and the General Secretary of ICOMOS Italy (2001-2011). Since 1998 she has been correspondent for the “Evaluation Report”, Expertise for the Inscription in the UNESCO “W.H.L”, “Harbour Fortifications of Malta” (1999), “Old Town of Corfù” (2006); “Fortress of Spinalonga” (Greece) (2019) and for the ICOMOS Executive Bureau, Paris. Research and more: 160 publications on the theme of urban history, historical cartography, fortified military heritage, urban integrated conservation, cultural tourism, intangible cultural heritage.
